Get Set

Blind your bottles: Classic ways to blind: Decant wine before guests arrive, or cover in brown bags or tin foil. A Sharpie works well to draw numbers.

Format—One glass or many? If you have enough glasses (no need to be fancy, plastic works), you might want to download tasting mats from our site and pour out the whole tasting. It looks great, allows you to prep the whole event in advance, and people can go back and forth to taste wines, which is always fun.

The one glass approach is fun too, more casual and super-easy. When a spontaneous wine game “breaks out” at Rob’s house, this is always the format. You do need to blind bottles and potentially draft helpers to pour for a larger group. The Wilders have done this for up to 60-80 people!

Connectivity: The game works best when all are on zippy wifi, so try to arrange that if possible. The game can work on weak cell connections, but some players and scores might lag. Giving your guests this link to download AND register in advance is one way to get right into the fun when guests arrive.

Name your game. OPTIONAL: Create a custom look for your game by adding a custom screen (and be sure to share it with us on insta @thewinegame). Tap the camera icon in the lower right of the home screen and take a photo. it’s that easy.

Add your wines. Once you’ve set up your game, find your picks in our database or add them yourself.

Bonus Questions: These questions are customizable in the app, and many think them the most fun part of the game. The game host sees a list of all the answers in their game center, and it is fun to have prizes for the best/funniest answers. One of our fave versions: “Cards against Humanity WineGame.”

Prizes: Optional, of course but super fun for top score—and lowest score. Everyone learns and can have fun with WineGame.

Food: Wine goes with food, so don’t forget the pairings. These can also be on-theme. We have suggested pairings with the tastings on our blog, like this Fall tapas tasting.

Welcome drinks: It’s a party, so don’t forget welcome wine, water and snacks.

Water: We always have plenty of water handy for people to rinse their palates between wines, and just stay hydrated in general.
